1. Conferences

The Institute periodically hosts international conferences focusing on issues facing modern education.  Our last conference, The Whole Human Story, the Foundation of Peace and Maria Montessori was held in February of 2008.  Montessorians from Mexico, Canada, the Virgin Islands, and from all over the continental United States attended to discuss the pedagogy of history and how to integrate issues of peace and human rights into our lessons.  Upper elementary and adolescent guides appreciated the opportunity to work together.  Students from local adolescent programs participated--and even presented.

2. Round Table Discussions
Round table discussions give practitioners the opportunity to meet and talk about the accomplishments they have made and the challenges they have faced.  Our round table discussions have always included a wonderful mixture of experienced educators who can bring the wisdom they have earned through years of working with students and new teachers who often bring a fresh perspective.  Facilitated by Institute staff, round tables allow participants to choose topics of interest to them.

Keep a lookout on  the Upcoming Events
  page for information regarding future
  conferences and round tables!

7. Staff Retreats
Teaching is hard work.  We need to refresh ourselves, interact
with our colleagues, take time to brainstorm, and take
opportunities to play together, to celebrate together.  Lake
Country Institute retreats offer these opportunities.  Inspirational
sessions focusing on Montessori's vision enable staff to work
together, accomplishing needed tasks and building community
at the same time.  Learn from each other and give yourselves
permission to work hard and to play hard.  Facilitators can help
mediate conflict, focus the discussion, and add outside voices
of wisdom and experience.  You will leave refreshed, your
batteries recharged, with new ideas to try and a renewed sense
of the power of this work.

    Cost:  $500 per day
